The experience with crisis and tensions is one of the central issues in the current historical research. Therefore the multiethnic and multi-confessional regions of East Central Europe have a particular importance for this area of research. In these frames the question after loyalty and loyalties emerged in the most various contexts. In particular loyalty had been discussed in a matrix of minority, majority and state in the political discourses as well as in the scholarly one. In East Central Europe the simultaneous development of diverse national movements let formulate the question about loyalty and disloyalty in many multiethnic regions, also in a versatile relationship with the imperial power. Hence the workshop “Loyalties and Disloyalties” intends to open perspectives in order to analyze of this norm both in micro as in the macro-levels of the Habsburg Empire.
