An exhibition by the Cultural Office of the City of Wroclaw in collaboration with the Institute of Art History at the University of Wroclaw and the Academic Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
The exhibition shows the development of the economic and cultural metropolis of Silesia from the Middle Ages until the present day, particularly in respect of their art and cultural history. The high quality and Central-European significance of the cultural heritage shared by Germans and Poles that is symbolically concentrated in Wroclaw are shown in texts and images.
At its center are eight boards with texts and illustrations from various archives, libraries and museums that are dedicated to significant stages in cultural history. These are accentuated by contemporary commentaries, with informative quotations from chronicles, literature, travel reports and press releases. Selected image materials from the collections of the Herder Institute are used for further illustration.
