Infrastructure project
Completed
Views of Silesia from the Haselbach Graphic Art Collection
Duration
2005 - 2007
Digital consolidation of distributed holdings
The collections held at the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie Regensburg (KOG) and the Schlesisches Museum zu Görlitz (SMG) were fully documented and digitally merged for the first time as part of a German-Polish collaboration between the aforementioned museums, the Herder Institute, and the Architecture Museum in Wrocław.
Exhibitions in Görlitz and Regensburg, as well as in Wrocław, Katowice, and Marburg, presented a high-quality selection from the Haselbach Collection beginning in spring 2007. They invite visitors to take a “journey through time” to a rich cultural landscape in the heart of Europe that has attracted artists and tourists for centuries. Topographical representations from different art-historical eras, especially from the Romantic and Biedermeier periods, lead visitors into a fascinating world of romantic mountain landscapes, proud cities, and former industrial strongholds. They show the diverse “discoveries” of Silesia by artists, engravers, and publishers, especially with the beginning of tourism in the 19th century. A colorful picture book unfolds before the viewer's eyes, bringing to life for today's generations the charm of Silesia, which Goethe praised as a “tenfold interesting country.” The online image database was created by the Herder Institute.
