NFDI4Memory: Consortium for historical humanities research
Task Area 1: Data Quality
Duration
2023 - 2028
The NFDI4memory consortium is aimed at the historical humanities as well as disciplines and fields of activity that make methodological use of historical data for their epistemological interests. The Herder Institute is one of the consortium's co-applicants and is co-lead of the “Data Quality” task area in cooperation with the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
The “Data Quality” task area deals with the definition, measurement, and implementation of research data quality in the historical humanities, thereby supporting future digital work with historical or history-related data and computer-assisted research through FAIR data. The subject areas of the “Data Quality” task area include practices and requirements in the field of data and metadata standards, aspects of the ethical handling of research data, FAIR data, and the establishment of publication workflows for research data in historical research and in GLAM institutions.
In addition to its work in the task area, the Herder Institute is organizing a “Linking Data|Linking Communities” summer school in 2025 (https://4memory.de/linking-data-linking-communities-nfdi4memory-summer-schools/) and awards the annual “NFDI4Memory-FAIR-Data-Fellowships” (https://4memory.de/4memory-fair-data-fellowships/), which offer support for the preparation and publication of data in historical disciplines.
Two fellows also wrote a blog post about their work:
