The holdings of the Research Library encompass around 520,000 bibliographic items in a range of different forms (for example books, data records, phonograms, microfilm/microfiche). The library also contains a press collection consisting of a newspaper collection and a unique archive of press cuttings (comprising around 5 million cuttings) as well as a music collection and various special collections such as scholarly estates. One focus of our collections is so-called “gray literature”, for example the library is home to a samizdat collection. Beyond this, the Research Library also operates a bibliography portal and participates in library-oriented subject portals (such as Osmikon). The scope of topics ranges from politics to culture and includes economics and social history as well as cultural studies and the culture of East Central Europe. In addition to a smaller inventory of older material, a large part of the literature is from the 20th and 21st centuries.
