Documents and Materials on East Central European History
An online source edition for university teaching
Introduction
Sources are fundamental for the study of history. Often, they are available only through archives, libraries or museums. The Herder Institute offers textual sources (“documents”) and maps, pictures or statistics (“materials”) on many historical topics relating to Central and Eastern Europa to lecturers, university students and the interested public. Sources that are sometimes hard to access are made available in open access.
Most of the texts have been translated to German. The topics of the modules stretch from the Middle Ages to the 20th century and focus on today’s Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and partly also Ukraine and Belarus.
