Department "Research Library" at the Herder Institute

The “Research Library” department is an academic library specializing in the culture and regional studies of East Central Europe as well as the political, cultural, economic and social history of the region. The department is responsible for collecting and indexing books, journals and newspapers as well as sheet music, records, CDs, CD-ROMs, videos, DVDs, and electronic resources and making these resources easily accessible. The materials are available in a range of West and East European languages.

Tasks

The work of the research library department includes:

  • Operating an on-site and inter-library loan service
  • Offering consultation during opening hours on how to use our collections and research services
  • Helping with literature searches
  • Providing advice and implementation of qualification opportunities
  • Building and operating digital research infrastructures
  • Integrating and upgrading existing online services
