Information on literature researches

To list the content of literature available in its stocks, the research library of the Herder Institute uses its own classification system, which is additionally recorded using an index.

In addition to a search in an electronic catalogue for concrete titles (with the name of the writer, title, key title words, etc.), researching by content criteria (guided searches) is also possible.

However, be aware that in all search attempts only research-library stocks that are already recorded electronically (around 80 % of 410,000 titles) (see current status of retro-cataloguing) will be taken into account. To search the content of literature, particularly older literature, still recorded exclusively in the card index catalogues, it will be necessary to search through the classification card catalogue in the catalogue hall of the library until retro-cataloguing is complete. Written enquiries can be made regarding individual titles or on the stock on particular subjects, people or regions.
